How to source wooden cribs and cots from Vietnam: a 2026 guide for importers

By the Tan Phuoc Furniture export team · Updated 2026-10-22

Short answer: choose a factory that already builds cribs to your market's mandatory standard (ASTM F1169 / 16 CFR 1219 for the US; AS/NZS 2172 for Australia and New Zealand), ask for its third-party test reports, approve a sample tested by your lab, then order. Expect an MOQ of roughly 40–100 units per model, about 10 working days for a sample and 40–60 days for production.

1. Define the market and the standard first

A crib that passes in the US will not automatically pass in Australia. The US mandates ASTM F1169 for full-size cribs (16 CFR 1219). Australia, from 19 January 2026, requires household cots to meet AS/NZS 2172:2013, ASTM F1169-19 or EN 716-1:2017 under its infant sleep products mandatory standards, plus specific warnings. New Zealand regulates cots under the Product Safety Standards (Household Cots) Regulations 2005. Tell the factory the destination before any drawing is made.

2. Shortlist manufacturers, not traders

3. Sample and test

Send the approved sample to a CPSC-accepted laboratory (US) or an accredited lab for AS/NZS 2172. In the US the importer issues the Children's Product Certificate (CPC) from that testing, and cribs need a tracking label and a product registration card.

4. Packaging and freight

Knock-down (flat-pack) cribs in 5-ply cartons load far more units per 40-ft container than assembled furniture, which is one reason wooden cribs are economical to ship from Vietnam. Ask the factory for carton dimensions and a container loading plan with the quote.

5. Duties

US duties on Vietnamese furniture depend on the HTS code and on current trade actions, which changed several times in 2025–2026. Wooden bathroom vanities and kitchen cabinets are subject to Section 232 wood-products duties; cribs, beds and dressers are classified differently. Confirm the rate for your HTS code with a licensed customs broker before you place the order.

6. Inspection

Book a pre-shipment inspection (AQL sampling) and include function checks: slat spacing, hardware torque, mattress-support fit and label placement.

FAQ

How long does it take to get cribs made in Vietnam?

About 10 working days for a sample, plus lab testing time, then around 50 days to the port for the first container (about 10 days for each following container), followed by ocean freight.

What is a typical MOQ for wooden cribs?

Around 40–100 units per model for factory-direct OEM orders; Tan Phuoc's MOQ is one 40HQ container (up to 2 sets mixed), 100 sets per model.

Does a US-compliant crib meet Australian rules?

Australia accepts ASTM F1169-19 as one of the compliance options for household cots, but warning, marking and information requirements are Australian-specific, so labelling and documents must be adapted.
