What changed for cots in Australia in 2026
From 19 January 2026, household cots supplied in Australia must comply with the new infant sleep products mandatory standards. Cots must meet AS/NZS 2172:2013, ASTM F1169-19 or BS EN 716-1:2017, plus warning and information requirements on the product, the packaging and online listings.
For a cot built to AS/NZS 2172, we work through the dimensions, slat spacing, mattress support and hardware with you before the sample, and supply warnings and instructions in the wording of your market.
New Zealand: Household Cots Regulations 2005
New Zealand regulates household cots under the Household Cots Regulations 2005. Importers should confirm the current requirements for their exact product with their testing lab or compliance consultant; our guides explain the steps for each market.
Australia's 2026 cot standardImporting cots into New Zealand
Key New Zealand cot requirements
- Bar spacing of 50 mm to 95 mm, and a gap between the mattress and any side or end of no more than 20 mm.
- No footholds or toeholds a child could climb on, and two fasteners, or two simultaneous actions, to open the cot.
- New cots need a swing tag, an information leaflet and permanent markings, including the mattress size.
- The regulations apply sections of AS/NZS 2172:2003. Folding cots, carry cots, cradles and bassinets are not covered by them.
Importers are responsible like any other supplier, so check the current requirements for your exact product with your testing lab.
Our AS/NZS 2172 test reports
We hold two SGS Vietnam reports for our cot models: AS/NZS 2172:2013 with AS/NZS 8124.3:2021 (2024) and AS/NZS 2172:2013 with AS/NZS ISO 8124.3 (2026). Both show a PASS result. A report applies to the model that was tested, and a changed design is tested again. Customer names and product codes are masked in the copies we publish, and full reports are shared with qualified buyers on request.
For materials we also hold SGS Vietnam formaldehyde emission reports for MDF and plywood panels, with limits referenced to AS/NZS 1859.1:2017 and a result of not detected at a reporting limit of 0.15 mg/L.
Standards were checked in October 2026. Regulations change, so confirm the requirements for your exact product with your testing lab or compliance consultant.

FAQ
Which standard applies to cots sold in Australia?
From 19 January 2026, a household cot must meet AS/NZS 2172:2013, ASTM F1169-19 or BS EN 716-1:2017, plus the warning and information requirements.
Do you have an AS/NZS 2172 test report?
Yes. We hold SGS Vietnam reports to AS/NZS 2172:2013 dated 2024 and 2026, both PASS. They apply to the models that were tested.
Can the same cot be sold in Australia and the US?
Often yes, with careful engineering, because ASTM F1169-19 is one of the accepted options in Australia. Labels and information differ by market, and each market needs its own testing.
What is the MOQ?
The MOQ is one 40HQ container per order, and you can mix up to 3–4 different models in it.
How long does an order take?
A sample takes about 10 working days. Production takes 40–60 days from the deposit, depending on the model, followed by ocean freight.
Can you make it to my own design?
Yes. We work as an OEM supplier to your drawings and as an ODM developer from your brief. Our design team checks the design against the standard of your market before the sample.
What are the payment and price terms?
Prices are FOB Ho Chi Minh City (Cat Lai port) in USD. Payment is by T/T, with a 30% deposit and the balance before shipment.
